Most people reading the title of this blog will think that this is about the General Elections but no actually (thats for later in the year). This is actually about what happened last March within the Aberystwyth Guild of Students Guild Elections and the race to be a Sabattical Officer; primarily Education and Welfare Officer.
Those that are in Aberystwyth this year will know that i was unsuccessful in the elections as i lost out to the brilliant and wonderful Kat Austen; honestly if i was going to lose to anyone i’d rather be someone who was a brilliant opponent and someone that hasnt rubbed it in my face (well apart from that one time in Cardiff).
Many people have asked me why i ran at all. To be honest I ran because of my love for Student Rights and the Student Rights Movement. Every Student at sometime needs help; whether it is due to being discriminated; whether it is due to financial problems or whether it is just needing a hug. That is the person i wanted to be; the person people could have come to for help. I also was a campaigner for Student Rights and the amount of campaigns i was going to run would have been endless and i wouldve have won. Ive had four years experience being an active part of Students Unions but then again maybe its not about experience.
Maybe its know what you know but acutally who you know.
I will let you be the judge in what that means.
However people have asked me if i regretted running; regretted spending a month planning it and to them i say this
I WOULDNT HAVE MISSED IT FOR THE WORLD!!!!!!!
So what do you think?
Are Elections about what you know or who you know?
