Election Fever; Not what you think

•02/05/2010 • 1 Comment

Most people reading the title of this blog will think that this is about the General Elections but no actually (thats for later in the year).  This is actually about what happened last March within the Aberystwyth Guild of Students Guild Elections and the race to be a Sabattical Officer; primarily Education and Welfare Officer.

Those that are in Aberystwyth this year will know that i was unsuccessful in the elections as i lost out to the brilliant and wonderful Kat Austen; honestly if i was going to lose to anyone i’d rather be someone who was a brilliant opponent and someone that hasnt rubbed it in my face (well apart from that one time in Cardiff).

Many people have asked me why i ran at all.  To be honest I ran because of my love for Student Rights and the Student Rights Movement.  Every Student at sometime needs help; whether it is due to being discriminated; whether it is due to financial problems or whether it is just needing a hug.  That is the person i wanted to be; the person people could have come to for help.  I also was a campaigner for Student Rights and the amount of campaigns i was going to run would have been endless and i wouldve have won.  Ive had four years experience being an active part of Students Unions but then again maybe its not about experience.

Maybe its know what you know but acutally who you know.

I will let you be the judge in what that means.

However people have asked me if i regretted running; regretted spending a month planning it and to them i say this

I WOULDNT HAVE MISSED IT FOR THE WORLD!!!!!!!

So what do you think?

Are Elections about what you know or who you know?

Pope; To Preach Religion or to Preach Hate

•02/04/2010 • 1 Comment

When we hear the world preach is it normally associated with either religious values such as a sermon or is frowned up as preaching to the masses and telling them they will all end up in hell.

We have all seen it in the street; religions of all sorts preaching to us.  Telling us that the end is nigh; telling us that what we do is wrong blah blah blah.

Now for a start off before someone says anything i am not against any religion in the world; i believe that if people wish to believe in anything that what they can believe in and i will never impose on their automony to believe in that!!!!

However what gets me is that a lot of people that preach think it is ok to impose upon my personal automony to live the way i want to live life.

Jesus loves you – cool dont need you to tell me

You are living in sin – THATS MY CHOICE!

And then just when you think it cant get any worse a few days ago the Pope has the nerve to have a go at the UK for its equality laws in relation to homosexuality.  Now i can understand thats his opinion; buts he is afterall the Pope; the leader of the Catholic Church.  People see the Pope as a figure that they will believe his every word.  Which this means a push back for gays to hide now.

FUCK THAT SHIT!

If the Pope wants to believe that he can but i say that he needs to be questioned!

Doesn’t all religion preach Equality?

“Treat others as you want to be treated” not “Treat all other that are not gay as you wish to be treated”

“Love thy neighbour” not “Love thy hedtrosexual”

“Turn the other Cheek” not ….. well you can see my point.

When does it become right that religion can legitimise homophobia?

When has it gone too far not to question?

Should preaching be stopped?

What should happen?

Until next time take care of youtselves and eachother

Human Rights

Hey all,

My name is Kieran and i am currently twenty years old and live in the good old town of Wednesbury.  I used to be at University but currently taking a year out for a well rested break.  This blog to me is a way that i can get my feelings out about my life; the world and everything really.  This blog will have a lot to do with tweets so log on to them both regularly.

I dont know how i would describe myself politcally.  I believe that everyone should be treated equally as its one of the foundations that our society.  How can we tell other countries to have human rights when we dont ourselves.  Without freedom of speech in theory this blog would not exist; it would be screened and then blocked by law which itself is wrong.  Censorship stops nothing!

But then the obvious argument comes along with the BNP and other party like these that are racists biggots that really to my mind dont deserve any merit in their arguments.  Having a no platform policy for these people will only just cause more outrage and lead to more people going towards them and asking as to why.  This causes controversy which obviously adds fuel to the fire.  So what to do; do we debate with them.

Some would argue that by debating with them we are adding merit to their argument?  Well if arguing with a racist adds merit then thats life.  The only way to beat a homophobe is to make him not afraid of homosexuals.

I know a lot of people will think this is a simplistic view but at the end of the day realism in relation to society needs to happen.  The current process is not working.  Something needs to change; if not god knows what will happen.

Until next time; take care of yourself and eachother

Hey All,

Well first of all thank you for looking at my blog; either you are here because you already owe me (thank you i owe you a drink :D ) or you are a random passer by (would you like a drink).  Either way thanks for looking and i hope you like this blog.

Now the idea behind this blog is to voice my opnions on the world; regardless of feelings and opinions.  I may bring other organisations within this blog; this is my opinion of them; not their opinion of me; if i mention any thing like that this is my opinion not theirs.

Right all that stuff out the way.
